Company Timekeeping & 15-Minute Rounding Policy (29 CFR § 785.48(b))
1. Policy Overview: To facilitate accurate payroll processing, [Company Name] utilizes a standard 15-minute (quarter-hour) rounding increment in accordance with federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines set forth in 29 CFR § 785.48(b).
2. The 7-Minute / 8-Minute Rounding Rule:
Employee punch times are recorded exactly and rounded to the nearest quarter hour (.00, .25, .50, .75) as follows:
- Minutes 1 through 7: Round back down to the preceding 15-minute mark (e.g., 08:07 AM rounds to 08:00 AM).
- Minutes 8 through 14: Round forward up to the next 15-minute mark (e.g., 08:08 AM rounds to 08:15 AM).
3. Neutrality & Fair Compensation: This rounding policy is designed to operate neutrally and evenly across all clock punches. Employees will be fully compensated for all cumulative hours worked during each pay period.
4. Strict State Exceptions: Where prohibited by state law (such as mandatory meal breaks in California under Donohue v. AMN Services), exact unrounded punch times are utilized.
